Ramche

Ramche, also known as Ramchaur, is a remote high-altitude camping area in the southern Kanchenjunga region of eastern Nepal. Situated at approximately 4,480 metres, it is one of the highest overnight locations on the southern section of the Kanchenjunga Circuit and an important staging point for the journey toward Kanchenjunga South Base Camp at Oktang.

The trail from Tseram to Ramche gradually climbs through the upper Yalung Valley, with the landscape changing from alpine vegetation to increasingly barren and rugged terrain. As trekkers approach Ramche, dramatic mountain walls, glacial valleys and high Himalayan peaks dominate the surroundings.

Ramche is particularly important because it provides access to the Oktang viewpoint and Kanchenjunga South Base Camp. Trekkers normally use Ramche as the final overnight stop before making a higher-altitude excursion toward Oktang, where the southern face of Kanchenjunga and the surrounding peaks can be viewed at close range.

The area is remote and facilities are basic, with simple seasonal lodging or camping rather than a permanent mountain settlement. Trekkers should be prepared for cold temperatures, limited facilities and rapidly changing weather at this altitude.

From Ramche, the trail continues toward the Oktang area before eventually descending through the southern Kanchenjunga valleys toward Tseram, Tortong and Yamphudin. The route forms an important part of the southern section of the Kanchenjunga Circuit.

For trekkers exploring both the North and South Base Camps, Ramche is a particularly significant location because it marks the final high-altitude staging point before reaching the southern viewpoint of Kanchenjunga.
