Sele La Camp

Sele La Camp is a remote high-altitude camping and lodging point on the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, located on the northern approach to the high passes connecting the Ghunsa Valley with the southern side of the Kanchenjunga region.

At approximately 4,130–4,300 metres, Sele La Camp sits above Ghunsa in rugged alpine terrain. It serves as an important overnight staging point before trekkers cross the series of high mountain passes toward Tseram. The exact elevation varies between sources because the name Sele La is used for both the camp area and the broader high-pass section.

The trail from Ghunsa to Sele La Camp climbs steeply through forests of rhododendron and juniper before emerging into open alpine landscapes. As the trail gains altitude, vegetation becomes sparse and the surrounding terrain increasingly consists of rocky slopes, ridges and mountain valleys.

From the camp, trekkers continue toward the high passes of the Sele La section, including Sinion La, Mirgin La and Sinelapche Bhanjyang, before descending toward Tseram on the southern side of the Kanchenjunga Circuit. This crossing is one of the most demanding sections of the trek because of the elevation, steep terrain and potentially snowy conditions.

Accommodation at Sele La Camp is basic and seasonal. Facilities can be limited, and trekkers should be prepared for cold temperatures, simple lodging and potentially limited water availability. The camp is primarily a practical overnight stop rather than a permanent settlement.

For trekkers completing the Kanchenjunga Circuit, Sele La Camp represents the transition from the northern Ghunsa Valley into the high-pass traverse toward the southern Kanchenjunga valleys.
