Tseram

Tseram, also known as Cheram, is a high-altitude mountain settlement on the southern section of the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek in eastern Nepal. Situated at approximately 3,870 metres, it is one of the most important overnight stops on the route toward Kanchenjunga South Base Camp and the high passes connecting the southern and northern valleys.

The trail to Tseram follows the remote valleys of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area and gradually climbs through forests, steep mountain terrain and alpine landscapes. After crossing the high passes from the Ghunsa side, trekkers descend toward Tseram, making the settlement an important transition point between the northern and southern sections of the circuit.

Tseram is also the principal overnight base for exploring the Ramche and Oktang area. From Tseram, trekkers can continue toward Ramche and make an excursion toward Kanchenjunga South Base Camp at Oktang, where spectacular views of the southern face of Kanchenjunga and the Yalung Glacier can be seen.

The settlement provides basic trekking lodges and teahouses for visitors. Because of its remote location and high elevation, facilities remain simple compared with those in Kathmandu or the lower villages along the approach.

For trekkers completing the Kanchenjunga Circuit, Tseram marks an important stage of the journey. From here, the route continues toward Ramche and Oktang, before descending through Tortong and Yamphudin toward the lower hills of Taplejung.

Tseram's combination of dramatic alpine scenery, remote mountain culture and its strategic position on the southern Kanchenjunga route makes it an important location for trekkers exploring both sides of the Kanchenjunga massif.
