Ghunsa View Point

Ghunsa View Point is a scenic high-altitude viewpoint above Ghunsa village in the Kanchenjunga region of eastern Nepal. It is a popular short side hike during the Kanchenjunga Base Camp and Circuit Trek, particularly as an acclimatization excursion before continuing toward Kambachen and the higher valleys.

The hike begins from Ghunsa and crosses the Ghunsa Khola before ascending through beautiful Himalayan forests. The trail provides an opportunity to gain additional altitude during the day while returning to Ghunsa to sleep, making it a useful acclimatization walk for trekkers. Trekking itineraries commonly describe the excursion as taking around 3–5 hours round trip, depending on the route and pace.

From the viewpoint, trekkers can look down over Ghunsa and Phale while enjoying views of the surrounding Himalayan mountains and valleys. On clear days, the elevated perspective provides a striking view of the remote landscape around the upper Ghunsa Valley.

The surrounding trail passes through forested terrain where trekkers may encounter Himalayan wildlife and birdlife. The viewpoint is therefore more than simply a scenic stop; it provides a gentle introduction to the higher-altitude environment before the route continues toward Kambachen, Lhonak and Pangpema.

For trekkers spending an acclimatization day in Ghunsa, the viewpoint offers a rewarding half-day excursion without requiring an overnight stay away from the village. The exact trail is not consistently represented on standard maps, so local guidance is useful when following the route.
